Anzir Boodoo
Anzir Boodoo is transcience's founder and, presently, sole researcher
"the best solutions are invisible -
they just happen"
biography
Anzir studied Geography at the University of Birmingham, then a Masters
of Research in the Built Environment (MRes) at the University of Leeds.
After some time as a Researcher at Loughborough University, on
automated rail timetabling systems, he was briefly a transport
consultant in Leeds.
It was here that he realised that the transport consultants were not
delivering, and in some ways were in no position to deliver real
solutions for cities in today's world, and that in some cases they were
serving only to exacerbate problems that already existed. One fo the
biggest gaps in this area being the general lack of knowledge of urban
design and form amongst those working in transport, and vice versa.
Anzir founded transcience in 2003, focusing on "applied research", the
carrying out and application of research into aspects of cities and
their transport networks.
Realising that alternative approaches were needed, Anzir has been a
supporter of alternative urban transportation systems, making light
rail cheaper and more accessible with TRAMPower, or investigating
hybrid transportation systems combining the advantages of bus transit
and light rail with Silvertip Design.
Anzir has long been interested in urban planning, and joined the
University of Birmingham's Urban Morphology Research Group in 1997. In
2002, he became Policy Officer (West & North Yorkshire) for the
Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (UK), taking charge of
responses to Regional Planning policy.
In 2005, Anzir joined The Commons,
a sustainability led initiative
combining the resources of many highly regarded urban and transport
professionals from around the world, and in 2006 became Managing Editor
of its publication, "New
Mobility Briefs"
Anzir is also active in performance poetry, as part of the 4words media group, and has
hosted performance events in Leeds and Bradford. He is also a member of
the bovine collective, which develops new products and services, and an
environmental campaigner.
