Nottingham Express Transit was still in the planning phase when
RailInfo was last updated, although Line 1 was very close to being
approved. Construction began in 2001, and the line opened in early 2004
after heavy delays due to extended system testing. To the left is a map
of Line 1 as submitted for approval and subsequently built. The line
follows the Robin Hood railway line, since upgraded from an hourly to a
half hourly service, between Basford and Hucknall, and this line was
singled in parts to allow space for NET to be double track throughout
(NET runs every 6-12 minutes on this section). An artists' impression of a NET tram is reproduced below. The trams were originally to have been ADtranz Eurotrams, identical to those in Strasbourg, which were built in Derby, but ADtranz was acquired by Bombardier, who discontinued the model. artists' impression of NET tram |
