the wider world
café ABsite is aware of its place in the world, and promotes a
deeper understanding of people and places. We were founded in Harborne,
Birmingham in 1998, and have spread to Leeds, Bracknell and
Loughborough. We are currently based in Leeds, the capital of
Yorkshire. In
2004, café ABsite launched The
Transport Café, bringing together various disparate
transport things.
Be nice to the world
Be nice
to people
- Support Amnesty
International (and oppose British torture of Iraqis)
- Big Issue!
Help homeless people help themselves. If you can't buy a copy, at least
say hello to a Big Issue seller. Ignore anyone not carrying a badge.
- Buy Fairtrade,
giving
a better deal to producers in poorer countries. Fairtrade itself
suffers from a major flaw, in that guaranteed prices above market rates
don't necessarily provide an incentive to produce a better quality
product, so please be careful what you buy...
- Trade fairly with UK and EU suppliers - Oxfam is
campaigning for
this
- Campaign to stop the
war
- TranScience Research
Institute investigates transgender, a much ignored condition (not
to be confused with transcience
in the UK)
- Americans are people too... I know sometimes it doesn't feel that way, but there are a lot
of good people over there. Iraq
Veterans against the War are spreading the word
Be
nice to places
Be
nice to
yourself
Community
Stuff
- bcb, Bradford's
community
radio station - by Bradfordians, for Bradfordians (now there's a scary
thought...)
- Friends Reunited
had to come in somewhere... find out what your old friends are up to
- Mad Pride - Mad, bad and dangerous to know!
- Support Mozilla
(used to
write this site), a free, open source internet software suite
- Wing of Madness
offers
support to those affected by depression, rethink asks you to rethink your
attitudes to
mental illness
- Yorkshire & Humber
Transport Activists' Roundtable
campaigns
for better, more environmentally responsible transport in our region
